Summary

The geographic spread of H5N1 avian influenza has continued to attract widespread attention and concern. What follows is an edited transcript of a recorded bio-era web-presentation and discussion held on January 10, 2007 to discuss recent developments related to H5N1 and the range of countermeasures emerging to address a possible human influenza pandemic. The call included contributions from a distinguished panel of outside commentators, including Dr. David Nabarro, the U.N. System Coordinator for Avian and Human Influenza, and Dr. Peter Daszak, Executive Director of the Consortium for Conservation Medicine. The call began with brief comments from bio-era principals James Newcomb and Steve Aldrich, who reviewed the latest developments and the implications of the spread of H5N1.
